Hotel Review: The Alpina Gstaad, Switzerland

Alpina Gstaad - Balcony View

The Alpina Gstaad is in the town of Gstaad, nestling among the mountains. The town has long been frequented by the rich and famous. They usually come for the skiing and the tiny town centre is stuffed with high end designer stores. Opulent chalets scatter the surrounding hills, but don’t expect bling. This is an understated sort of place and the Alpina Gstaad is furnished with recycled wood from farms over Europe and local stone from the river. Works of contemporary art adorn the walls and there’s a designer electric Fiat 500 in the lobby, changing colour depending on the temperature.

Who for

The hotel is a destination in its own right, offering Swiss luxury and excellent cuisine, but it’s connected to an extensive network of footpaths if you want to take in the mountain air and work up an appetite. In effect if you want a bit luxury, good food and a chance to enjoy the outdoors you will find it here.
