Finland has been awarded the annual 2020 United Nations World Happiness Report’s accolade of being world’s happiest country. Again. For the third time in a row, 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland and Norway were also near the top.

The report cites good social support networks, social trust, honest governments, safe environments and healthy lives.

Denmark had the top spot three times too in 2012, 2013 and 2016, Switzerland in 2015 and Norway in 2017.

In all, 156 countries were ranked in 2020 report according to how happy their citizens perceive themselves to be, based on the evaluation of their own lives.

The UK missed out by taking 13th place while the US came in at number 18.

Jeffrey Sachs, one of the report’s editors said that the World Happiness Report has proven to be an indispensable tool for policymakers who wish to understand the factors that promote happiness and wellbeing.

He confirmed that reasons that contribute to wellbeing include good social support networks, social trust, honest governments, safe environments and healthy lives.
